Track & Talk Ltd | Frequently Asked Questions
How does GPS work?
GPS stands for Global Positioning System. The GPS receiver has a small antenna that receives signals from a constellation of GPS satellites. Using the timing of signal reception from multiple satellites, the receiver calculates its own position and speed. The receiver actually is a combination of a GPS receiver and a GPRS data modem. The radio transmits GPS-calculated positions back over a satellite network. Location and course data is then uploaded to our servers. Authorized customers can monitor vehicle movement on maps and reports displaying route information, stop location/duration and other valuable information.
Our solution requires no up-front investment in servers or software, so the service is equally cost-effective for one vehicle to one thousand vehicles! The hardware consists of a small module installed in each mobile or fixed asset you want to monitor. Negligible power, drawn from the vehicle's own electrical system, is used. Software is a secure suite of web pages accessible to authorized customers only, available on any PC. No other hardware or software is required. The system is effectively real-time. The in-vehicle unit transmits GPS position data to the servers, which in turn updates your display on the web system. Updates are transmitted at standard intervals. This provides timely location updates, while avoiding the data-overload problems that come with continuous position updates.
Only authorized customers with correct user names and passwords can view asset information. Reports allow you to view archived vehicle position and history (path) information from maps. Reports also offer great flexibility in presenting vehicle history. You can report on activity from any part of the archive for any tracked assets. All reports can be printed as well as viewed online. You can also download report data for further analysis or distribution.
